How to Actually Believe What God Says
How to Actually Believe What God Says
People are always asking me so many different questions about how they can see results in their life and in their walk with Christ, but my answers always go back to how they see themselves and how they see God. Proverbs 23:7 says, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.”
God can only give us what we’re able to see because we were never designed to live beyond our own self-image. Ask yourself: do I see myself the way God sees me and am I in agreement with who He says I am, what He says I can have, and what He says I can do? If you believe things that are not in alignment with His Word (the memories, your past, the negative self-talk), they will block the manifestation of God’s word in your life.
For example, God says you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13), but you still deal with self-doubt. Or maybe you have created a product or idea, but because someone has said something negative about it, you don’t believe your idea is good enough.
It goes back to: are you going to worship what you say, what others say, or are you going to make God’s word the highest truth concerning your life?
Sometimes we put limitations on ourselves based on what has happened to us or what we have seen happen to others. As a result, we become selective regarding what we decide to believe. It’s crucial that you identify where you are in your life and come out of agreement with the lies that the enemy has told you about yourself. If you don’t, you will subconsciously end up living in agreement with them.
Manifesting the Word
The Word only works for those that work it. God designed you to manifest what you believe. You can’t have a part of your heart in the Word and a part of your heart in the world and expect to see the full manifestation of God’s promises in your life.
Believing God 30% of the time and believing the enemy 70% will only water down and weaken God’s power from operating in your life. It’s like going to Chick-fil-A and getting a sweet tea, yet you keep adding water to it. Over a period of time, it won’t taste like tea because you’ve diluted it so much. In the same way, your faith will eventually lose its potency, and that’s why some of us can’t figure out why we don’t have the results we desire in our relationships, career, or finances.
You can say you believe you will receive all day, but you won’t actually receive anything until you believe – like for real for real. And this entire process all starts with your image. If you’re stuck in a particular pattern, you have to get into the Word! Sometimes we reject God’s love because we reject ourselves. We get fed from the world and settle for its counterfeit love because we cannot believe who God says we are. But you have to come up to what God says and ask Him to help you see yourself the way He sees you.
In my life, I never felt good enough, “on point” enough, or skilled enough to do anything that God told me to do. But I made a quality decision in my heart to believe that what He said about me in His word is true. And because I believe him, I am empowered to continue taking leaps of faith toward my destiny.
God is not looking for you to measure up. He wants you to make a quality decision to believe…and then take massive action. He doesn’t need our list of qualifications or experience. He doesn’t even want to hear our list of weaknesses. He needs our faith. He needs our yes. He needs us to be somebody willing and obedient.
In order to follow God, we have to be built upon Him, who He is, and how faithful He is, because that’s what we can stand on. We can’t stand on ourselves. It’s not enough. It won’t ever be enough. We’ve got to trust what He says about us and about our lives beyond our human reasoning.
Making a Decision to Believe
Decide right now with all finality in your heart that you are going to believe God’s Word above everyone and everything else! Of course the enemy is going to try you, but remind him of God’s Word. Talk back to what keeps talking to you! Then meditate on the truth like it says in Joshua 1:8, “Meditate on the word both day and night, so that you may be careful to everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”
The Word knows what to do once it gets dropped inside your heart. As you continue to confess it with your mouth and believe in your heart, it will transform you from the inside out! You’ve got this! You don’t have to live as a victim to your old thought patterns and ways of believing. You really can have what God promised you in His Word…starting today.
Repeat this prayer if you find yourself struggling with believing what God says.
“God, thank you for your Word and for having amazing plans for my life. I come to you as I am and I choose to come out of agreement with every negative word or comment that I have ever believed about myself. I reject the lies of the enemy and I choose to make your Word the highest truth concerning my identity, my purpose, and my life!
Lord, help me to see myself the way that you see me and grow into the best version of myself. Help me to recognize more about You and who I am in You because when I am in You, I have everything I need. Help me to be dependent on You and not myself. I invite you to be Lord over my life so that from this day forward, I can resist my thoughts and fight the good fight of faith. In your name I pray, Amen.”
