How to Live a Lit Life Part 2

In the last blog post, we talked about how to live a lit life. If you haven’t checked it out, be sure to check it out here. But let’s dive right back into part 2!

Learn to Be, Not Do

A lot of times, we’re so busy doing everything we think God wants us to do, (and sometimes we are doing what He wants us to do) but it’s almost like we’re doing everything right, but we’re doing it all wrong. We’re not really seeking and submitting.

We’re doing a whole lot, but we’re not becoming

We’re doing so much to build the business, buy the house, get married, and serve at church that we forget to be. We think because we’re doing #allthethings that God is pleased, but sometimes preparation for our destiny is doing less. Aka God just wants to spend time with you!

Being is a matter of learning how to rest in who God is and who He made you to be. It means being yourself… the real you! Many times, we underestimate the fight involved and the courage required to do just that.

Before the foundation of the earth, God knew you and what you would do (Jeremiah 1:5). He predeposited everything you would need to fulfill your destiny on the inside of you. So guess what? If we spend more time being (getting to know God and ourselves), we can unpack it all.

Becoming is an inside work. It’s confronting mindsets, behaviors, and patterns that are not congruent with the Bible, but it’s also discovering all the amazing gifts that have been placed on the inside of you.

God cannot do this for you. I know it sounds harsh, but it’s true! You have to cast down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. You have to call things that be not as though they were. You have to forgive those who have hurt you. You have to spend time in the presence of God because it’s His presence that will deliver you from everything in your life that’s not working lol.

But these things can’t be done in your own strength! It all requires you to believe the Bible and that what God says about you is true! Becoming is about spending time with God so that He can reveal to you who you are in Him. Your identity in Christ cannot be fortified if you don’t believe it! We only become what we believe.

Check Your Seek

The Bible tells us to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all other things will be added unto us (Matthew 6:33). Seeking is being. If you want to reach your destiny (and I hope you do!) you can start by asking yourself: what is my seek game like? Am I seeking God? Is my seek active or passive?

Think about it. If somebody comes to my house and they want to come in, but they don’t knock on the door, I won’t know to open it. And I live in a coded-access building downtown so good luck with that! LOL

The Bible says, “Seek and ye shall find, knock and the door shall be open.” -Matthew 7:7

Some of y’all are at the door whispering talking about, Jesus, I’m outside... LOL

Let us, therefore, come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16

God wants us to come to Him boldly, which means we have to knock. Seeking is active!

Sometimes it can be easier to seek God first when we’re desperate, amen?!

When the pressure is on, He might be your natural go-to…but what about when there is no pressure? What about when things are going great?

When you have your dream job (and plenty of money for Zara, Starbucks, and Sephora LOL) or you’re with your dream man…is God still first? It’s simple in concept, but it can be challenging to actually live out.

Plug Into The Source

You may be asking, Ash, how do I stay lit? Stay connected to your source of power aka God! I’m telling you right now. If I go to get my nails done or I’m at a restaurant and my phone dies, guess what I am going to be looking for? A charger. And if I have a charger with me, guess what I’ll be looking for? I hope you said it… an outlet!

Fight to keep your connection and communication with God strong. It’s worth it.

You may need to take some time to figure out what your time with God looks like (journaling, listening to sermons, listening to praise and worship, etc.). Ask God to show you how to plug into Him. Trust me… He’ll let you know. Different seasons may require you to connect with God differently. What worked for you last year or at the beginning of January may not work for you now. The key is staying in communication.

If we’re willing to be honest, sometimes we are not seeking God because we don’t want to hear what He has to say (because He has already told us what to do and we don’t want to do it. #RealTalk) But there are no shortcuts to God’s promises being manifested in our lives.

Helpful Hint: Every point of increase in your life will require you to change. It requires you to make adjustments and we need light for this! We have to stay plugged in! If we don’t have enough light, we can’t see, and if we can’t see, we can’t change.

Align Yourself with God’s Word, Will, and Way

Think about an actual cell phone charger (No,this blog post is not sponsored by AT&T LOL). If you don’t plug it in, you have no power. It’s really that simple. It’s not enough to dance around the outlet or lay down next to it, you have to actually plug it in! But in order for the charger to be inserted into the outlet, it has to be perfectly aligned.

When it comes to our spiritual lives, the same is true. We have to align ourselves with God’s Word, His will, and His way. A lot of times, we are solid on the Word, but we are unwilling to submit to His will and/or His way of doing things.

This looks like us yielding to the Holy Spirit in every area of our lives whether it’s in our health, finances, relationships, etc. When we repeatedly disobey the instructions given to us by God to improve our lives, we end up living out of integrity with ourselves. In other words, when we continually fail to do what we know to do, we lose confidence in our ability to follow through.

And as a result, we believe in God, but we don’t believe in ourselves and both are necessary in the wild adventures of faith! Believe that!

So Let’s Review:

  • Learn to be, not do.
  • Sometimes preparation for your destiny is doing less.
  • Seeking is active not passive.
  • Keep your connection and communication with God strong.
  • Align with God’s word, will, and way.

I would love to know your biggest takeaway from this post. Tell me in the comments below or let me know if you have any questions! As always, if you know this post would benefit someone you know, don’t be stingy, share it!
