Real Talk: Planning the Boss Up Mastermind

What if I told you that your life will never rise above the way that you think? It’s true. God wants His plan and your dreams to come to life, but we have to show up, tell the truth, and do the work in order for those plans to manifest and that work starts with our mindset. There are no limits around us, only the ones that live within us.

For example, let me give you a quick glimpse into the planning process of my most recent adventure in the wild adventures of faith LOL, the Boss Up Mastermind. (Be sure to grab all of the powerful, transformative, life-changing teachings from the event here!)

Living in Divine Moments

Back in March of 2019, I was asked to speak at a women’s conference and alongside my main message, I was also asked to do some business coaching with some of the participants during lunch. I was thrilled about this opportunity because very seldom are there ministry programs customized to serve women entrepreneurs. So in brainstorming the business coaching VIP luncheon logistics, God dropped a name in my spirit, “The Boss UP VIP Luncheon.”

The funny part is I had a disdain for all the girl boss, like a boss, boss babe language. If you’ve been on Instagram for any length of time, I’m sure you’ve seen at least one of these quotes on somebody’s feed in rose gold with a champagne background LOL. So when God said call your session, “Boss Up” I was like whaaaaat lol???

And to be honest, I didn’t even know if anybody was going to sign up for the luncheon in the first place because I was definitely the “no-name” on the line up of speakers but God! The women signed up! I taught a mini accelerated lesson about prospering and doing business God’s way, and answered all of their questions pertaining to faith, business, and life. The Lord moved in a special way and really touched the lives of everyone that attended!

Breakthrough at a Luncheon

In the session that day, I noticed a theme. I wanted to focus on helping the women build their businesses, but God wanted to deal with what was going on in their hearts (the identity issues, low-self esteem, grief from losses, the trauma of past situations, and rejection).

Isn’t that how it goes with us and God sometimes? We want to talk about how to get more clients and cash, but God wants to deal with our character? We want God to show us what’s next and the “how,” and He wants to deal with what hurts.

A lot of times, we are so focused on all of the external things pertaining to building our dream life and growing our businesses (growth strategies, marketing, logos, and websites) that we neglect the internal development required to actually manifest and maintain what we desire.

Anyway, I had no clue that the Boss Up VIP Luncheon would lead to my first live event later in the year. God told me that I would create and facilitate empowerment sessions a while back. I just didn’t know how it would all work with the other 30,000 projects I had going on LOL!

But when God said it was time to start planning, I instinctively felt the need to execute what you now know as the Boss Up Mastermind because I didn’t want to go into the next year without doing the last thing He told me to do.

Helpful Hint: God reveals your tomorrow through your obedience today.

Spiritual Warfare vs. Purpose

Throughout the planning process, I didn’t really know what to expect. I’m like, Okay, I’m obeying God. This should be pretty simple.

I mean I knew there would be some challenges, but I had NO clue about the LEVEL of spiritual warfare that I would be met with as I continued to plan the event (especially an event that was helping people get healed and get this money OKAY?!) Let’s just say God took me through a little Boss Up Mastermind of my own before the conference even happened. My prayer life had to go to another level!!!

The truth is many times we underestimate the amount of hard work, pain, and pressure involved in the process of manifesting the promises of God. People can more easily celebrate the outcome of what you are building and what you become, but very rarely do they see or understand the sacrifices required to make it all happen.

Remember: If it were easy, everyone would be doing it.

The pursuit of God’s plans and purposes for our lives requires us to get uncomfortable. It requires us to step outside of our comfort zone and depend on God’s ability and not our own. We have to be willing to retire from a DIY do-it-yourself mentality and step into what grace has already been provided to us in Christ Jesus. But it also requires us to mature! We have to grow up to go up, amen?

God cares about every single detail of our lives and as we communicate more with Him, we can more easily discern what He wants us to do like hiring the right people to join our teams, choosing the best business strategies, or planning events like the Boss Up Mastermind. (Yikes! LOL)

The Power of Humility

When you are stepping out to do what God has called you to do, humility and vulnerability are very important. Because I was willing to share some of the challenges I was facing with people I trust and care about, it created a space for them to not only pour into me, but also give me wisdom to defeat what I was coming up against in the spirit during the planning process.

If I was too prideful or unwilling to expose the level of difficulty I was facing, I probably wouldn’t have received the help (spiritual revelation) I needed in order to finish executing the actual event. And the same goes for you! In order to break a level in your professional performance, you need a breakthrough in your mentality because that’s where it all starts remember?

And a lot of times, the breakthrough you need will be connected to your willingness to receive or learn whatever it is you don’t know (it all requires humility).

So identify your support when you’re trying to do big things for God, but also be willing to open up, share, and most importantly, receive. Failure to communicate the areas of your suffering will most likely always sabotage the outcome of your efforts. We have to be comfortable with receiving from both God and from others.

So Let’s Review

  1. When we are secure in our identity in Christ, we have a firm foundation to focus on planning our God ideas.
  2. Obeying the last instruction God gave you will reveal the next piece of the puzzle.
  3. Pursuing God’s plans and purposes for our lives requires us to mature spiritually. We must be willing to grow. This means getting comfortable with being uncomfortable.
  4. Open communication requires vulnerability and humility. It’s the gateway to growth and your peak performance
  5. Remember, if it were easy, everyone would be doing it.
